The Maina Curtorim police on Tuesday attached thecell phone of Curtorim Congress candidate Moreno Rebello in connection with thecomplaint lodged by the Returning Officer for Curtorim constituency Ramesh NGaonkar.
Moreno, however, said he is innocent and hasdenied having uploaded any video on the social media platform. He said that hisFacebook account was hacked by unknown persons.
Maina Curtorim police station in-charge, PI MohanGawde informed that the cell phone of Moreno Rebello has been attached as partof investigations into the FIR registered by the police based on the complaintlodged by the Returning Officer.
He said the Returning Officer had lodged acomplaint alleging that the Congress candidate for Curtorim constituency haduploaded a video on social media platform Facebook on February 9 which had theeffect of promoting a feeling of enmity, hatred and ill-will and creatingdisharmony between different religious communities on grounds of religionthereby violating the model code of conduct.
An FIR under Section 125 of the Representation ofthe People’s Act, 1951 and Section 188 of the IPC has been registered by thepolice.
Moreno, however, has denied his involvement inthe matter.
“The so-called video has been in circulation andsomeone must have hacked my Facebook account”, he added.
