Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira expressed grave concerns over the declining state of law and order in the State, urging Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to prioritise administrative duties over campaigning activities.

Ferreira highlighted a concerning trend wherein the law enforcement apparatus appears to be faltering in its duty to maintain public safety. “Every day, we are witnessing a downward spiral in the law and order situation,” remarked Ferreira, emphasising the ineffective functioning of police intelligence and the failure to preempt criminal activities.

The MLA lamented the brazenness of criminals, exemplified by the recent robbery at the revered Shree Bodgeshwar Temple in Mapusa. “Thieves now seem to spare no sanctity, targeting even places of worship,” Ferreira stated, echoing the apprehensions of locals who fear the possibility of robberies by individuals wearing disguises.

Drawing attention to the kidnapping and robbery incident in Tivim, Ferreira underscored the alarming escalation of criminal activities.

He criticised the perceived inaction of the home minister, who doubles up as the CM, calling for accountability and transparency in addressing the deteriorating security situation.

“The administration is in disarray, and the people of Goa deserve answers. I think the CM can cut short some of his campaign visits and start looking at the State’s administration. Ultimately, people should not suffer,” Ferreira asserted, suggesting that the Chief Minister reassess his priorities and allocate more attention to governance amidst the escalating crisis.

‘Govt focuses on collecting data of opposition’

MAPUSA: Lambasting the State government for its dereliction on law and order front, Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira said the government focussed more in collecting information of the opposition then controlling the crime.

“I think the government is only collecting data of the opposition. And that is why they are not looking in the right direction,” Ferreira said.
