A 52-year-old resident of Canca died after coming under the hind wheels of a truck at Parra on Tuesday morning. The truck driver has been arrested in this connection.
Police informed that Michael Fernandes, a native of Vengurla but residing in Canca, was crushed to death after a truck hit his bicycle from behind at the Circle of Palms, Parra. The incident occurred at around 9.30 am.
According to police sources, both the cyclist and the truck were moving in the same direction.
After reaching at the Parra junction, the truck dashed the cyclist, who fell and came under the hind wheels of the vehicle and was crushed to death, police informed.
The truck driver, Umesh Naik from Pomburpa was arrested for causing death due to rash and negligent driving under Sections 279 and 304A of the IPC. PSI Kiran Naik is investigating the case.
Old Goa Police informed that the accident occurred near Montfort Institute, Corlim, on Monday when an unidentified heavy vehicle collided head-on with the motorcycle rode by Vijay Kumar Salunke (23), thereby causing grievous injuries to both the rider as well as the pillion rider Sanjay Kumar (16), both from Santa Cruz.
Both the injured were shifted in an ambulance, but both succumbed to injuries on the way to the GMC Hospital in Bambolim.
The bodies of both the victims were handed over to their relatives. Police informed that they are yet to trace the identity of the unknown vehicle involved. PSI Sahil Warang is conducting further investigations.
