The effects of Cyclone Kyarr, which was just over 200 kilometers away from the Goa coast in the Arabian sea for several hours, was felt across the State with heavy rains and winds in the early hours of Friday morning, and water levels rising in several places leaving roads flooded, trees uprooted, and commuters inconvenienced.

The depression in the Arabian Sea which saw the State receive heavy rainfall even at the end of October turned into a cyclone -- Kyarr -- in the wee hours of Friday morning at around 5:30 am and stayed around 230 to 250 kilometers parallel to the Goa coast for the entire morning, the Goa center of the Met Department updated.

By around noon, the cyclone started moving away slowly reaching 258 kilometers, and then at around 4.30 pm, the Met Department said it had moved to approximately 260 kilometers away from Panaji.

Kyarr is expected to move towards Oman coast during the next five days, the Department has predicted. It is very likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by Saturday morning and into a very severe cyclonic storm during the subsequent 12 hours.

Heavy rainfall is expected to continue in some places in Goa on Saturday, but the weather is expected to be milder by Sunday, the Department has forecast. However, winds of around 170-180 kmph to 200 kmph are expected on Sunday morning over the Eastcentral and adjoining Westcentral Arabian Sea around the system centre. Seas are expected to remain rough on Saturday.

High waves in the range of 3.2-4.8 meters are forecast upto 11.30 pm on Saturday along the coast of Maharashtra from Malvan to Vasai. High waves in the range of 3.0 to 4.5 meters are also forecast till 11.30 pm on Saturday along the coast of Goa from Vengurla to Vasco.

A port warning has been issued for ports including Murmugao port till the cyclonic storm moves completely away from the coast.
