PANAJI: Despite messages doing the rounds of possible effects of Cyclone Vardah affecting the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa has issued a statement saying the state has no threat from the cyclone that hit the coast of Tamil Nadu.
Cyclone Vardah had crossed the Tamil Nadu coast on the afternoon of December 12 following which, the storm weakened as of the morning of December 14. This was due to a low pressure area over southeast Arabian Sean and the adjoining coastal Karnataka and Kerala.
“This low pressure area will not cause any severe weather conditions in Goa and so, no weather warning is issued for Goa. There is no need of any panicking in any field of activity in the state,” said Sahu.
Weather conditions across the state on Wednesday were light to moderate rain in a few places with cloudy skies. Light to moderate rain is expected to continue in isolated places on December 15 and the weather is most likely to be dry over the next subsequent three days.
Minimum temperatures however rose and were appreciably above normal by about 3.1 degree Celsius and 5 degree Celsius over north Goa and near normal over South Goa. The lowest minimum temperature of 22.6 degree Celsius was recorded at Mormugao.
Maximum and minimum temperature forecast for the area of Panaji and neighboring areas are likely to be around 29 degree Celsius and 25 degree Celsius respectively. The 48 hour forecast predicts partly cloudy skies with a maximum and minimum temperature around 32 degree Celsius and 22 degree Celsius.
