“These new washrooms were planned around six months back as the old washroom was not able to cater to the increased load of visitors and passengers. The AAI will be dismantling the old washroom soon,” said Airport Director B Negi.
In order to address the maintenance issues related to floor carpet in the Security Hold Area, the AAI has initiated work to replace the carpet with vitrified tiles.
“Work started a week back and will be completed by April. The work is being taken up in phased manner to ensure that passenger movement is not disturbed as far as possible,” said Negi.
In a bid to improve cleanliness standards at Goa airport, the AAI has awarded a new Mechanized Environmental Support Services (MESS) contract to a new agency which will start from April 1.
“The new agency is presently working at big airports like Chennai and Hyderabad. Both manpower and machinery will increase. There is provision of manpower for each washroom,” said Negi.
The AAI has also floated a Request For Quotation (RFQ) to appoint a master concessionaire for Retail and F&B facilities, in order to ensure world class retail and F&B facilities at Goa airport.
“The AAI will select a single vendor - Master Concessionaire, retail services who will own all the retail outlets at the airport. Similarly, for food and beverages also, a single vendor will be selected.”
“The technical and financial criteria will ensure that only those agencies owning international and domestic brands will be able to participate in the RFQ/RFP. Before selection of the vendors, AAI Goa has already started works to create additional areas in the terminal to
have more retail and F&B facilities,” the airport director added.
