With this, connectivity of Goa with north Karnataka and south Maharashtra region is expected to augment, while the industries in the region are expected to get a boost.
According to the information from the South Western Railways, Union Minister Prabhu will also lay a foundation stone to the eagerly awaited Kolhapur-Vaibhavwadi new railway line which will connect Western Maharashtra with Konkan region. He will be also inaugurating the electrification of Kolhapur-Pune line.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis and his cabinet colleagues will be present for the function on Saturday morning.
It may be recalled that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its approval for doubling of Pune-Miraj-Londa railway line project at an estimated cost of Rs 3,627.47 crore and expected completion cost of Rs 4,246.84 crore in May 2016.
Besides public transportation, doubling is expected to enhance Goa’s connectivity to north Karnataka and south Maharashtra region.
While Miraj-Londa section will have additional transport capacity to meet their requirements, industries and agriculture produce too will be benefited as the doubling of this line is expected to lower expenses on freight tariffs.
Though the expected time to complete the doubling between Miraj-Londa section is expected to take about five years, travellers have welcomed the long-pending initiative by the Railways. The length of the length of the railway line between Londa and Pune via Miraj is 467 kms.
