In fact, around 95 history sheeters across South Goa district have come under the close watch of the police following the cold blooded murder of the Irish woman.
During an informal chat with the media on Thursday, South Goa district Police Chief, Chandan Chaudhary said that the police have compiled a list of history sheeters in the district, who are known trouble makers in their localities and involved in criminal activities. “The accused in the Irish woman rape and murder case has been a history sheeter involved in a host of criminal cases. There’s a need to keep a close track on the movement and activities of these criminals to maintain peace and avoid incidents,”
she said.
“Records submitted by the respective police stations in South Goa revealed that there are around 95 history sheeters in the district. The police will maintain a close watch on their activities to ensure that they do not disturb the peace in the society,” she added.
She also called on the general public to inform the police on any suspicious activity, especially if a local of questionable repute is seen befriending a foreign tourist, especially a woman. She said the problem can be nipped in the bud before it creates an incident.
Superintendent of Police Chaudhary promised to act in respect of the begging menace in the commercial capital during weekends and holidays.
The media had drawn her attention to the begging menace in the SGPDA market on Sundays when beggars from outside the State descend in large numbers causing nuisance to shoppers, citizens and the general public, especially churchgoers on Sunday morning.
