Residents of Jairam Nagar in Dabolim met PWD officials to complain about water supply shortage in their area.
Chicalim Panchayat ward Panch Robert Falcao, who led the delegation, complained that residents had been struggling with water shortage since June and had depended on private water tankers to meet the daily water requirements.
"Due to an increase in high-rise buildings in the area, water supplied to the area is insufficient and we have requested the PWD to increase water supply by 50%. Despite repeated complains to PWD, the situation has not changed. We took up the issue with Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho who convened a joint meeting with PWD and directed them to give us direct connection from the new line, but that has also not been done till date," said Falcao.
"Sometimes, water is not supplied at all and there is no intimation. Private tankers charge exorbitantly and we spend around 25,000 a month per complex," said Falcao.
PWD Assistant Engineer Eknath Paste said Jairam Nagar had many new constructions and water supply was for around 4 hours in the area.
He, however, assured to send water tankers to the affected area.
"Our pipelines are small and it takes time to fill all the huge sumps of every residential colony in the area. The pipes are over 40 years old and there is breakdown once or twice a week.”
“Repair works are taken during the day and our water supply timings are also around the same time, hence there is an issue of water in the area.”
“These pipelines will be changed within two months under the JICA project and the issue will be resolved," said Paste.
