MGP leader from Dabolim constituency Premanand (Babu) Nanoskar quit the party on Monday and joined the Aam Admi Party (AAP) in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister and AAP Supremo Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi on Tuesday.
Nanoskar, who has considerable influence in Dabolim constituency, submitted his resignation to the president and general secretary of the MGP, resigning from the primary membership of the party.
In his letter, Nanoskar said he had resigned for personal reasons but thanked the MGP for the opportunities provided to him during his tenure in the party.
However in a political twist, news broke out that Nanoskar on Tuesday had joined the AAP in Delhi and a photo of him with Kejriwal went viral on social media, hinting that he could likely to contest from the AAP ticket in Dabolim constituency.
When contacted, Nanoskar confirmed he had joined the AAP in Delhi.
"I had submitted my resignation to MGP on Monday and then went to Delhi. I met Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Monday and we had a lengthy discussion,” said Nanoskar.
“I joined the AAP in the presence of Kejriwal at the CM’s bungalow today. I cannot reveal much details as of now, but can only confirm that I have quit the MGP and joined AAP," said Nanoskar.
Nanoskar had unsuccessfully contested assembly elections from Dabolim constituency in 2012 and 2017 on the MGP Ticket against Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho.
Godinho, who had contested on the Congress ticket, had won against Nanoskar by a margin of 944 votes in 2012, while Godinho extended his margin and won on the BJP ticket in 2017 with a margin of 2,494 votes.
