Damaged pavers at Seraulim railway crossing pose hindrance to traffic

MARGAO
Railway authorities, including the Konkan Railway, have been caught napping as the damaged concrete pavers laid in between the tracks for vehicular traffic have affected smooth travel at the Seraulim railway crossing.

In fact, two-wheelers have to undergo the ordeal of negotiating the damaged pavers to cross the railway gate, fearing that even a minor slip could result in an accident.

While the railways have replaced the concrete pavers at the Margao railway crossing with a special material, ensuring smooth ride for two-wheelers, this is not the case at the Seraulim railway crossing.

A motorcycle-rider informed that motorists are caught in a traffic jam at the level crossing several times a day and have to now contend with the damaged pavers laid between the two tracks.

When The Goan called up senior Konkan Railway official, Baban Ghatge, drawing his attention to the hardships faced by motorists, more so two-wheeler riders on account of the damaged pavers at the Seraulim level crossing, he promised to get the engineering section of the railway to do the needful.

“I will immediately ask the KRC engineering section to take a look at the Seraulim level crossing and take appropriate action,” he added.

While it is around two decades now that the Konkan Railway was commissioned, neither a fly over nor a road under bridge has seen the light of day at the Seraulim level crossing to date.

It was only last year that local MLA Churchill Alemao laid the foundation stone for the construction of a road underpass, meters away from the level crossing. Officials, however, said it will take some months before the road underpass is commissioned.
