While welcoming the medical college at the South Goa district hospital under the Centre’s Niti Ayog scheme, BJP leader and former Fatorda MLA Damu Naik has said he would also request the government to place before the public the benefits of the private medical college.
He also challenged archrival and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai to cite a single project initiated by him during his nine-year old tenure.
Addressing the media to welcome the budget presented by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday, Damu said the various proposals and schemes mooted by the Chief Minister in the budget will benefit the common man.
He welcomed the government’s announcement to set up a medical college at the South district hospital, saying it will help the hospital and the public in a big way.
However, when a scribe pointed out that the government is yet to place before the public domain the benefits of a private college in a government hospital, Damu said he would request the government to come out with the list of benefits of the private college in the South district hospital.
“The government has taken the decision to set up a private college in the South district hospital. We don’t want the south district hospital to turn into a White Elephant. I will request the government to explain the advantages of a private college in the South district hospital under the Niti Ayog scheme”, he added.
The BJP general secretary also took the opportunity to lash out at the Fatorda MLA for not setting up the bus stand in the city despite being an MLA for around nine years now.
“Even small towns in the state have their bus stands, but in Margao and Fatorda. The MLA Sardesai owes and explanation to the people”, he added.
He appealed to the people to wake up to the vertical development of the city with projects coming up with 300 FARs. When the scribes pointed out that his government is in power in the state, Damu shot back saying that he was not part of the PDA, which has given the huge FARs to bring in vertical development.
