MARGAO
Arch political rivals, Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai and BJP leader Damu Naik locked horns once again on Monday, this time over the two Covid care centres proposed by the Margao Municipal Council at the Nehru stadium, Fatorda, and Manohar Parrikar indoor stadium, Navelim.
The two-time former Fatorda MLA questioned the incumbent MLA for the failure to start the care centre at the two stadiums when the collector had already handed over possession of these to the Margao Municipal Council.
MLA Sardesai shot back saying the centres could not start because government dragged its feet in sanctioning manpower to run the centres. Sardesai dared Damu to convince his government to sanction the healthcare workers, promising to start the centres immediately.
Damu questioned why the MLA had to flash the news of the care centres starting in the city, demanding to know the MLA’s role in the process.
“The MLA indulged in a publicity stunt announcing the two centres when the existing one at the multipurpose hall near the swimming pool is operating with 50 per cent occupancy,” Damu said.
He demanded to know whether it was part of a political agenda to scuttle the Covid swab centre coming up at the Fatorda stadium.
