Verna police have registered a case against a young woman and her boyfriend for allegedly stealing gold ornaments worth about Rs 2 lakh from the woman’s mother and pledging them to obtain a loan.
According to police, the complaint was filed by Munni Gupta of Sancoale. She alleged that between February 2026 and March 10, 2026, she had entrusted her gold ornaments to her daughter, Kajal Gupta, for safekeeping. However, while she was in hospital, Kajal allegedly stole the ornaments from the cupboard with the help of her boyfriend, Anand.
Police said Kajal later eloped with Anand, and the two allegedly pledged the stolen gold in Anand’s name with a finance company to secure a loan. They are accused of using the loan amount for their personal expenses, causing the complainant a loss of about Rs 2 lakh.
Verna Police have registered a case under Sections 305, 316(2), 49 read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Rajdatt Arsekar of Verna Police Station under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
