Bowing to public sentiments, the Davorlim panchayat body on Sunday rejected the construction file of a housing project comprising of 14 bungalows proposed in ward No 4 of the Panchayat.
The Panchayat took the decision to reject the construction after agitated residents of Ward No 4
came in large numbers when the Panchayat body chaired by Sarpanch Flancy Gomes was taking place in the Panchayat ghar.
While the body was deliberating on the question of imposing a host of conditions, including
measures to be taken by the developer before undertaking the construction, members of the public made their presence felt in the chamber of the Sarpanch and demanded rejection of the construction file.
The Sarpanch later told the media that the panchayat had during the site inspection of the project had suggestion imposing a host of conditions before approval is granting for the housing project.
"When the matter came up for discussion at the body meeting on Sunday, members of the public made a forceful demand to the body to reject the file.

he panchayat has unanimously resolved to reject the construction file for the 14 bungalows in ward No 4", the Sarpanch stated.
Ward Member Francisco Colaco told the media that the project had a number of deficiencies, including the absence of a proposal to tackled the wet garbage generated in the complex, no STP plant, road, water and electricity network etc.
"Davorlim village is facing a major problem in handing the burning issue of garbage. Hence, the Panchayat body has decided to reject the construction file of the bungalows," he said.
A local resident Andrew Rebello said the local residents had called on the panchayat body a fortnight ago, with a plea not to approve any housing project in the village without the consent of the villagers.
"Today, when we came to know that the Panchayat body would discuss the construction file of the 14 bungalows, we decided to go the Panchayat and raised our strong objection to new housing projects in the village," Andrew said, adding that the villagers will not accept any mega housing project in Davorlim in the future.
