Day 2: Mapusa, parts of Bardez without water

MAPUSA

For the second day on the trot, Mapusa and parts of Bardez did not get a drop of water even as PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral informed that normal water supply will be restored by Friday.

Senior PWD officials informed that the repair work of the damaged 1000 mm diameter water pipeline, which was going on in full swing since Wednesday, has been completed.

Water supply to Mapusa constituency and various other parts of Bardez was cut off since Wednesday morning after one of the main PWD water pipelines was found damaged in Colvale.

PWD officials soon took up the work to repair the pipeline on war footing and worked throughout the Wednesday night to restore the pipeline.

“The work has been completed and water has also been released in the pipeline albeit at a low pressure. By Friday, normal water supply will be restored,” PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral told The Goan.

The main water pipeline cracked on its joint at Fatir-vaddo, Colvale, leading to major disruption of supply to Mapusa and other parts of Bardez.

The damaged pipeline was located in a hilly area with limited access making the repair work a little difficult.

Meanwhile, water tanker owners made a roaring business as people had no other alternative but to depend on water from tankers as their sumps and overhead tanks went dry.
