The department of Town and Country Planning (TCP) has issued notification rescinding the GIS-based draft zoning plan of Pernem taluka with immediate effect.
A gazette notification withdrawing the earlier notification keeping the draft plan open for public suggestions and objections was issued on October 18 by Chief Town Planner Rajesh Naik.
"The Government of Goa hereby rescinds the Government Notification No. 36/1/TCP/493/2023/2451 dated 16-08-2023, published in the Official Gazette, Series II No. 20, dated 17-08-2023, with immediate effect," Naik said.
Following public pressure, the State government had earlier this month cancelled the draft plan.
The draft plan, which was kept open for public suggestions, was vehemently opposed by the people of Pernem stating that the plan is drafted to facilitate the building lobbies and with vested interest.
Apart from several demands to scrap the zoning plan, the Pedne Bachao Abhiyan had also warned of an agitation at the residence of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, if the draft zoning plan was not scrapped.
According to the draft plan, nearly 1.4 crore sq meters of land or 21 per cent of the green cover was proposed to be converted into a settlement.
