Day after mishap, no police yet to monitor busy Curchorem junction

SANGUEM

A day after three students and a woman were injured after being knocked down by a four-wheeler while they awaited a bus near Shivaji Circle at Curchorem, one would have expected authorities to take immediate steps to ensure safety and security for pedestrians along the busy junction.

However, no policeman or home guard was present during the school hours to monitor the busy junction and to help schoolchildren cross the road.

President of the Curchorem Unit of Shivyodhya Vignesh Prabhudessai, who witnessed students crossing the road, blamed the police for failing to ensure the safety of students even after the day of the accident.

“We would like to know from authorities as to why the issue has been taken lightly by authorities. There should have been immediate deputation of either home guards or police at the Shivaji Circle,” said Prabhudessai.

“Incidentally, we see police teams at other junctions waiting to pounce on two-wheeler riders riding without helmets. However, when it comes to the safety of people and our children, we find authorities turning a Nelson's eye, which is bad and unacceptable,” claimed Prabhudessai.

Incidentally, several parents and guardians were seen personally coming to drop off and pick up their children, following the mishap on Thursday.
