Dead sea turtle washed ashore at Agonda beach

The decomposed carcass of a turtle was washed ashore the Agonda beach shore on Wednesday.

Some fishermen noticed the dead sea turtle washed ashore at the Southern end of Agonda beach and alerted the lifesavers, who, in turn, notified the forest (wildlife) officials.

The dead turtle was later taken into custody by the forest department (Padi Range) and after a proper examination, was buried in a pit on one corner of the beach at Agonda.

According to forest officers who took up the exercise to dispose the carcass, the female sea turtle was small in size, but of the specific species of thge endangered Olive Ridley.

“It apparently died after being caught and injured in a fishing net. The carcass was more than 5 days old,” informed an official supervising the disposal exercise.
