Minister for PWD Sudin Dhavalikar has said that the final decision over diversion of traffic at Cortalim will be taken on January 7 and has clarified that as per ‘form-8’ of Central Public Works Department, the contractor should be provided land with free access to walk and hindrance free land, so they can carry out work smoothly.
Dhavalikar, speaking to The Goan, clarified that while the work is going on, the onus is on the government to provide free access to walk and hindrance free environment at work place.
“As per the clause we have to acquire 60 meters of land, but we have acquired only 30 meters. Had we acquired 60 meters, many houses in Cortalim and near by areas would have been affected. We saved almost 150 houses by acquiring less area. I am thankful to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for permitting us to acquire only 30 meters. No where such relaxation has been given.” Dhavalikar said.
When asked about the diversion of traffic, he said all things will fall in proper. “The diversion of traffic will be decided on January 7 in the presence of TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai, Panchayat Minister, Mauvin Godinho and Cortalim MLA Alina Saldhana”, Dhavalikar said.
According to him, he has shown the entire area of diversion to concerned officers and they have been asked to prepare drawings. “After the alignment is finalised and preparation of drawing is done, we will take a final decision on diversion. It will happen on January 7”, he said.
He said that they have found an option to divert the traffic parallel to railway route, which was used as service road by them. “This service road needs to be repaired. Once it is done, everything will take place smoothly. We are working on it”, he said.
“I am happy that I could save the houses of people. Everyone should understand this aspect. Now everyone, including panchayat is supporting us for the new developments”, he said.
