Decrease in number of whistleblowers

PANAJI
The number of whistleblowers is decreasing day by day as there are less people coming forward to complain against corruption. In the last 19 months period from April 1, 2019, to November 25, 2020, around 208 complaints have been registered.

December 9 has been declared as International Anti-Corruption Day by the United Nations. India has anti-corruption laws enacted in the year 1988 on the basis of which the anti-corruption branch works.

Out of 208 complaints that have been received in the above period 93 cases are under investigation while 115 cases have been disposed of after probe. ACB has registered 10 FIRs in this period and in 7 cases chargesheets have been filed. The ACB has also initiated a primary investigation against two officers.

The vigilance department, on the other hand, has disposed of around 400 complaints received during the period of April 1, 2019, to March 31, 2020, due to lack of substantial evidence.

Around 35 cases have been disposed of by imposing fines on officers. A chargesheet has been filed against 13 officers.
