The Goan: Why should people vote for you?
Yuri Alemao: I am the candidate of the Congress party and active in social and political fields. With age and energy on my side, my professional training as a commercial pilot has imbibed in me organizational and life skills. Debate and discussion are my forte.
TG: If you are part of government which is the first legislation you would like to bring in the assembly.
YA: Undoubtedly, the first would be the repeal of the Amendment to 16 (B) to the Town & Country Planning Act.
TG: Who is the one leader outside your party that you admire as a politician?
YA: Not one but a few. CM Naveen Patnaik of BJD for governance and smart politics.
TG: Who would be your CM choice if your party comes into power?
YA: A risky question to answer. As of today, Digambar Kamat. But I am aware that since it’s my debut in election politics, I should not express choices.
TG: Do you justify a merger by 2/3rd or do you consider it as against the mandate of people?
YA: The ideal is that an MLA must resign and face the electorate again. Defections or mergers have made a mockery of mandate. If merger, it cannot be that legislators merge; it should be at all levels including party organization.
TG: Do you feel the 2022 election will throw a clear winner?
YA: I am confident that the people will give a clear majority to the Congress party, and the Congress-GFP alliance will form the next government.
