PANAJI: The Defence Expo scheduled to be held in Goa in the month of February has been allotted land for 4 days only. This, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said, has been mentioned in the latest letter sent by the defence secretary which was read out to the meeting of BJP MLAs, ministers and office bearers on Saturday.

The BJP meeting was attended by senior party leaders. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar was supposed to attend but had to rush to Delhi after the terror attack in Pathankot, Punjab early Saturday morning.

The Chief Minister said, "He (Defence Secretary) has clearly mentioned in the letter that the land has been given for the expo for 4 days. They have also mentioned that it would be embarrassing to change the venue at this point of time as the defence companies in India as well as abroad have been informed about the same.”

Decison to make Goa a permanent venue will be taken after the 4-day expo, said the Chief Minister referring to the letter.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Saturday said he would find a middle path to the issue of cost of iron ore transportation in consultation with Mines and Transport Department early next week. He said the new rates for transportation of the freshly extracted ore would be notified soon.

“We have heard both the sides - mine owners as well as the truckers. Within two days, if possible on Monday, we will sit with mines director and transport director and find a midway solution to this problem," he said. "Subsequently, the new rates for transportation of the freshly extracted ore will be notified while the rates fixed for transportation of e-auctioned ore will remain the same.”

Briefing about the meeting, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parskar said, “Various issues were deliberated upon which included Medium of Instruction (MoI), Regional Plan, mining and developmental works. Though no decision on any of these has been taken, everyone put forth their viewpoints.”

As regards The Regional Plan Goa 2021 is concerned, some of the MLAs have demanded that talukas which have lesser suggestions be notified first.

“We had given an assurance to regularise the unauthorised structures in the State in the manifesto. The work on the bill is going on and discussion on the same was held,” said Parsekar.
