Defence Production Secy visits GSL

Secretary (Defence Production) Subhash Chandra visited Goa Shipyard Ltd on Wednesday as part of activities related to the launch of 3rd Coast Guard Offshore Patrol Vessel scheduled for Thursday.

During the visit, Chandra inaugurated the commencement of production of Fast Interceptor Boats (FIB) at the New GRP Complex. 

Construction of FIBs is primarily targeted towards export markets in the African and South East Asian Countries, which have demand for these boats for patrol and surveillance operations.

The production of the FIBs will be carried out in the newly set up GRP facility which is part of infrastructure modernization of GSL. 

The state of the art GRP workshop includes a mold bay, telescopic movable shelter, dust and fume extraction system, compressed air system, firefighting system, and other services.

A license agreement was exchanged between Cmde BB Nagpal, NM, CMD, GSL and V V Parlikar, DS & Director, R&D (Engineers), Pune for ToT in composite technology in the presence of Chandra. 

Technology transfer in the field of Resin Film Infusion Technology and Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding will enable GSL to participate in manufacture of composite products for varied applications for Defence Forces.

During the visit, Chandra also inaugurated the steel cutting of LPG cylinder carrier vessel at the new steel preparation shop at Goa Shipyard Ltd. 

GSL has been awarded the contract for construction of two LPG Cylinder Carrier Vessels for the Lakshadweep administration. 

The contract which was signed on September 23 was won against competitive bidding. 

The steel plate cutting marked the commencement of the construction of these vessels.
