Defunct KTC buses as mobile toilets for migrant labourers

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday said that the government has decided that instead of scrapping KTC buses after every eight years as has been the practise, the government would refurbish these vehicles into mobile toilets to be used by migrant labour.

Replying to the discussion on the demand for grants, on the issue of Labour and Employment, Parrikar said that it would be a convenient solution to the vexed problem faced by labour at construction sites where they live.
"The only thing we will have to do is remove the seats and instead of scrapping the bus it can be brought to use," Parrikar said. Parrikar also said that while he could not directly stop companies from employing non-Goans, he would ensure that benefits are sent only to those companies that indeed have more than 80% staff as domicile Goans.
Earlier, Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte said that many pharmaceutical companies in Goa were entirely employing persons from outside the state as the managers wanted to bring in "their people".
The issue was also taken up by Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro who said that Goans were disappearing from banks and today even in banks in Goa were being staffed by outsiders.
"They have to take our money and spend it on some people outside," he asked.
