Independent MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has dashed off a letter to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant demanding a ban on the manufacturing of the consumables to drink and to eat in plastic bottles/jars/ containers.
Instead, he urged the government to instruct the companies to restart the manufacturing of the same in glass bottles and glass jars/ containers. He said these soft drink, beverages, beer companies must also be instructed to take their glass bottles/ cans back from the consumers by paying them some incentives.
The Curtorim MLA drew the attention of the Chief Minister to the nuisance caused by littering of beer bottles and cans along with the dangerous plastic material everywhere in the form of bottles, jars, containers, etc across the State of Goa be it soft drink, juices, pickles, sauces, ghee and other consumables. He added: “Notably, it is given to understand that the littering of these plastic bottles, plastic containers, etc like other plastic waste is dangerous to existence of life. Plastic waste is harming the environment by killing land animals, fish and other creatures in water bodies.”
