The Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) on Thursday demanded a dedicated police station for Dabolim constituency, given the rise in crimes, domestic problems and anti-social activities in many parts of the constituency which has been rapidly developing in population.
Addressing a news conference, GSM Youth President Nitin Faldesai said they along with other residents of Dabolim constituency had written to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, seeking a full-fledged police station for the constituency.
"A police outpost was inaugurated by Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho a few years ago to control crimes in the area, it has been shut down.”
“There are many issues like goondagiri, eve-teasing and drugs consumption in New Vaddem area. There are also rising cases of domestic violence. A full-fledged police station will reduce the pressure on Vasco police station, while also bringing the crime rate under control in the area," said Faldesai.
Another resident and social activist, Sanjay Mhalshekar, said the New Vaddem police outpost had become a garbage dumping ground.
"It is sad to see a police outpost becoming a garbage dumping ground and the municipal council should clear the garbage immediately because it can be a health hazard in the area.”
“The police department must also restart the police outpost if possible, till a full-fledged police station is made available for the constituency," said Mhalshekar.
GSM Member Sanjay Naik said they would also start a signature campaign from residents demanding a separate police station.
"A letter containing these signatures from people in Dabolim constituency will later be submitted to the chief minister," said Naik.
