Demanding a drive against touts involved in illegal business along the coast, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has said the police should arrest these touts and keep them in police custody for at least 24 hours.
Speaking to reporters after launching the work to hot mix the road from Dolphin circle to St Anthony Chapel at Calangute, Lobo said he would hold talks with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the Advocate General in this connection.
Claiming that the number of touts in the tourism sector is increasing, Lobo said the police and panchayats should keep a watch on them.
“Likeminded citizens and NGOs should also step forward to curb these activities. Some time ago, the Calangute police had initiated a campaign to arrest the touts,” Lobo said.
“Touts are responsible for illegal activities in the coastal area. They should be arrested and kept in police custody for 24 hours and if they are found indulging further illegalities, they should face stricter punishment,” Lobo added.
