The demarcation work for the IIT project at Shel-Melauli in Guleli-Sattari began on Wednesday under tight police protection, after a large number of protestors assembled at the site and voiced their objections.

Sattari Joint Mamlatdar Sanjeevani Satardekar met the protestors and advised them not to stop or hinder the demarcation work, which went on till Wednesday evening.

A large police force was deputed at the site, after authorities anticipated the presence of anti-IIT agitators and a possible law and order problem.

On learning that the demarcation work was underway, a large number of agitators rushed to the site and voiced their objections. They complained that the State government had not addressed their grievances and warned that they would not allow the project to start.

The agitators requested the Sattari Joint Mamlatdar to stop the demarcation work, but she rejected their demands.

She explained to the protestors that the demarcation work was being carried out as per the government's order and action would be taken if any attempt was made to obstruct the work.

A delegation of protestors led by Shashikant Savardekar then submitted a memorandum to Satardekar, requesting the government to consider their demands and left the site at about 2 pm. The demarcation work continued till evening in the presence of a police team.
