Citizens and Congress leaders question MMC’s action
MARGAO
Demolition order issued by the Margao Municipal Council to raze down a house has sparked outrage amongst citizens, who have questioned the action when the government has launched the Mhaje Ghar scheme at the hands of Home Minister Amit Shah.
The citizens pointed out that the ancestral house of a niz Goenkar Lalan Parsekar and family is facing demolition orders for repairing of their house.
Congress leader Savio Coutinho charged that two government bodies – Margao Municipal Council and the SGPDA have issued contradicting demolition orders by falsely claiming that the Parsekar family has encroached on the public road. “We challenge the MMC and the SGPDA to have a joint inspection and verify if the Parsekar family house has even crossed their legal boundaries of their plot,” Coutinho who himself is a civil engineer said.
He said the harassment meted out to the Parsekar family is only because Lalan Parsekar who is strongly supporting the Congress in Margao, has not crossed over to the BJP.
Lalan Parsekar stated that her family undertook the repairs of their house after duly consulting Margao MLA when he was in Congress. “And when we have completed the repairs and living in our house, we are receiving notices and demolition orders just because we have not followed him into the BJP,” she alleged.
