Stating that the government should denotify the notification which extends MPT’s jurisdiction over Goa’s waters, GPCC president Girish Chodankar demanded that the chief minister should resign if he fails to do so.
“When the notification was issued in 2012, the Congress government was in power and then CM Digambar Kamat had assured activists that the same would be withdrawn. But then the code of conduct came into force and in the following election, Congress lost,” Chodankar informed.
“Before coming into power, the BJP in its manifesto had also mentioned that the notification would be withdrawn. From 2012 till date, even though BJP has been in power, nothing happened on this front. If the chief minister fails to denotify the same he should resign,” Chodankar demanded while urging the St Andre MLA Francisco Silveira to give assurance to the public that the notification would be withdrawn.
“Whenever agitations took place, the Congress and the government always stood with the people. When the people agitated against SEZ, Goa was the first State to cancel the same,” he pointed out.
“Development has to be sustainable and not to fill one’s own pocket by selling Goa’s land and forests,” Chodankar opined.
Targetting Pramod Sawant, Chodankar stated that initially the CM stated that he is with the people but the next day he changed his stance in favour of the businessmen stating that the government has made a commitment.
“The commitment of the government has to be with the people not with the businessmen. You are the CM of the people not of the businessmen,” Chodankar said. “If tourism has to prosper and promoted then the natural beauty like that of Nauxim has to be preserved,” he pointed out while concluding that scams have become common in the MPT and the latest one is that of the naphtha tanker involving a minister who wanted to buy naphtha at a cheap rate.
