Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on Saturday said the Tourism department is committed to promote tourism beyond beaches in the state to showcase the culture, traditions and heritage of the state.
Speaking to the media after inaugurating the Margao shigmo float parade in the commercial capial on Saturday in the presence of PWD Minister Digambar Kamat, BJP State president Damu Naik, Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuemkar, MMC Chairperson Damu Shirodkar and Councillors, the Tourism Minister underscore the need to preserve Goa’s rich traditions and culture. “The Tourism department has set in motion the process to promote tourism beyond beaches by showcasing the Hindu culture, traditions and festivals”, he said.
Complimenting the youth for taking forward the art and culture of Goa by preparing the floats with innovations and technology, Khaunte said this will help preserve the rich culture and heritage for posterity.
In his address, PWD Minister Digambar Kamat expressed satisfaction over the participation of troupes at the Romtamel and chitra raths, and made an appeal to the participants to stick to time as per schedule.
Thousands of people watched the Romtamel and Chitra raths floats along the half a kilometre stretch from Old Hospicio to the Margao Municipal square.
On the occasion, Yogiraj Kamat, son of PWD Minister Digambar Kamat cut the cake to make his birthday on Saturday.
