CURCHOREM\r \rThe miscreants committed the offences when police on night patrol had finished their duty. Incidentally, one cross desecrated was near Curhcorem MLA Nilesh Cabral’s house at Morailem. \rSpeaking to The Goan, Curchorem PI Shivram Vaingankar said police teams inspected both sites shortly after miscreants had damaged both crosses. \r“Curchorem police have registered an offence under Section 295 of IPC against unknown persons for hurting religious sentiments of the people and police have already started investigations from all possible angles. We will intensify police patrolling in the area,” PI Vaingankar added. \rCurchorem Police also checked CCTV camera footage, but could not get any lead. Fingerprint experts and a dog squad were also pressed into service. Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral visited both the sites and directed the police to take action in the matter. \rAccording to sources, PI Vaingankar on Wednesday night had deployed police teams at several parts of Curchorem, after crosses were damaged at Chandor and Gudi-Paroda on Sunday, while a ghumti was damaged at Hodar-Curchorem on Monday morning. \rTaking cognizance of these incidents, DIG Rupinder Kumar had recently convened a meeting with SP Chandan Chaudhary, DySP and the police inspectors from other police stations. Acting on the order, PI Vaingankar deployed the police to patrol at midnight at Chandor-Curchorem, Assolda, Dhodiyal-Shelvan, Tilamol junction, Shivaji Chowk, Ambekar Chowk and Tisk, but the miscreants again continued to violate the sanctity of religious symbols.

Night patrolling by police had little impact, as two more crosses were desecrated at Xelvona and Morailem in Curchorem in the wee hours of Thursday.
