MARGAO
Francis Pereira was on Tuesday remanded to six days police custody by Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao for investigations into the spate of desecrations in the jurisdiction of Maina-Curtorim
police station.
Maina-Curtorim police station in-charge, PI Gawde informed that the accused will be subjected to interrogations in connection with the half a dozen desecrations reported within the police station jurisdiction in the last two months.
After interrogations, the police are expected to take the accused to the sites where religious crosses and structures were desecrated and vandalised in Chandor, Curtorim and Loutolim. "We will first interrogate the accused and then take him to the spots," PI Gawde stated.
In fact, the spate of desecration of Holy crosses had started from the Maina-Curtorim police station, beginning with the desecration of a cross located on the Chandor-Assolda village border. Soon thereafter, the Alma Khuris at Chandor was the target of the miscreants, which was desecrated twice along with a cross at Guddi and a shrine at Paroda.
A cross at Ralloi Tollem was later desecrated along with another cross on the Davorlim-Margao border, besides the desecration of Tulsi Vrundavan and Nandi at the Shree Krishna Temple, Calconda-Margao.
Two more crosses were desecrated in the jurisdiction of Maina-Curtorim police station in Loutolim village, including the miraculous cross at Vanxem.
