Deserter cop remanded to 7 days police custody

The deserter cop, who was arrested in connection with an extortion case, was on Thursday remanded to seven days police custody.

Anjuna police produced the accused before JMFC court in Mapusa, which incarcerated him to police lock-up.  
Police sources informed that the constable had stopped reporting to work for more than a month.  “A policeman that fails to report to work without intimation for more than 21 days is labelled as a deserter,” a police official said. Sources said till late Thursday evening there was no recovery made, but the accused had mentioned that he had preserved the gold ornaments in a bank locker.  
It may be recalled that the police had arrested the accused, constable Suraj Pendse from Assagao, on charges of harassment
