Despite ban, heavy vehicles ply via Chorla Ghat highway

Despite ban, heavy vehicles ply via Chorla Ghat highway

BELAGAVI

Frequent accidents and traffic blockades due to the movement of heavy vehicles along the Belagavi-Goa state highway via Chorla have forced authorities to ban the movement of multi-axle vehicles.

However, overloaded multi-axle trucks have defied the orders and continue to proceed on this route.

Apart from damaging this road, it is also causing huge inconvenience to travellers from Belagavi and Goa, inviting the ire of locals along the route.

“Despite the ban from Goan authorities, how is it that multi-axle vehicles are still plying on this road? While collectors keep issuing the ban orders, the truckers, it seems, are not bothered at all. Moreover, it is surprising that Goa Police and RTO authorities are turning a blind eye to the movement of these multi-axle vehicles,” remarked Kiran Gawade, a noted activist from Kankumbi.

Residents from villages along the route have urged district authorities of Belagavi to impose and implement similar orders and have also urged Goan authorities to look into the matter so that the ban order is implemented totally.

Villagers have also warned of agitation and blocking the vehicles in case the authorities do not act.
