Authorities on Friday seized several beach beds, tables and chairs which were placed without approval at Morjim beach.
With tourists flocking to Morjim beach, several shack operators have reportedly placed beach beds, tables and chairs near shacks on the beach.
Locals, however, complained that the beach beds, tables and chairs had been a hindrance and had blocked access to the beach.
On Thursday, a team from the tourism department inspected the entire beach and warned the shack operators to remove the beach beds, tables and chairs, failing which action would be taken.
On Friday, a tourism department team went to the site and seized a large number of beach beds, tables and chairs which were placed on the beach. A police team was present to avoid any untoward incident.
The drive to seize the beach beds, tables and chairs caused some panic among the tourists. Some continued to relax on the beach beds and authorities waited till the tourists vacated the space before confiscating the items in the drive which went on till late Friday evening.
When contacted, Deputy Director of Tourism Gajanan Mahale said the drive to seize unauthorised beach beds, tables and chairs would continue and warned that action would be taken against those who have not yet obtained licences to place beach beds, tables and chairs on the beach.
