The seven postmen from Ponda, who were terminated from their services, submitted a memorandum to North Goa MP and Union Minister Shripad Naik and urged the MP to use his good office to get them reinstated.
The memorandum was submitted as the seven postmen along with their family members met the Union Minister at his residence at Sao Pedro, Old Goa on Friday.
In the memorandum, the postmen have urged the MP to make a case for change in the rules to ensure employment of Goans in central offices.
“You are the flag bearer of Goans and we expect you to rise for the rights of the Goans. We would like your good office to put the demand before the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to reinstate our services in the post office,” the memorandum further states while pointing out that around 50 persons working in post offices across Goa are facing the axe of termination in the near future.
Later, speaking to reporters, the postmen informed that they have faith in MP Naik that he will take up their issue with the Centre and get them reinstated.
“We are pinning our hope on the MP that he will take up our cause and ensure that we are reinstated on a permanent basis. Otherwise, the State government should provide us employment,” a postman Sandesh informed.
Meanwhile, RGP MLA Viresh Borkar informed that he has spoken to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for the recruitment of the postmen.
“The CM has assured that he would try to accommodate them,” Borkar stated while informing that he has also submitted a memorandum to the North Goa MP Naik to take up the issue of the postmen with the Centre.
