Despite CCP commissioner’s order to stop transportation of contaminated water from wells behind Sanchayani House, Panaji, tanker supply operations are still going on rampantly.
Around 10 days ago, Panaji’s Urban Health Officer Dr Neeta Kakodkar had certified that water from the well at Sanchayani building in the Mahalaxmi temple area cannot be recommended for human consumption.
Dr Kakodkar had also directed government officials to stop the tanker water supply but officials till date have failed to act against the tanker supply operations.
Acting on Dr Kakodkar’s report CCP commissioner Sanjith Rodrigues on Monday had served a notice to the tanker operator asking him to immediately stop supply of water. But despite this, the operations were going on in full swing and water was being transported day and night from the contaminated well.
Thousands of litres of water from the well are being supplied to construction sites as well residential areas.
According to the laboratory analysis of the water samples, the wells are infested with “e-coli” which could be detrimental to the health of residents who consume the tanker supplied water.
Panaji-based activist Sanjay Sarmalkar had launched his campaign against the tanker supply business eventually leading to the health officer taking the action. According to Sarmalkar, shortage of supply from the PWD pipeline network is forcing people to order tanker supply.
