Rising to the Coronavirus challenge, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Tuesday made a statement about the need to seal Goa’s borders as tourists from the neighbouring States have been flocking to Goa’s beaches to make the most of the 15 day lockdown in both States of Karnataka and Maharashtra.
“I have sought advice of Union Minister for Health Dr Harsh Vardhan on how to seal borders with the neighbouring States. It has come to our notice that in these 15 days which have been given off, people from the bordering areas from Maharashtra and Karnataka are coming into Goa. A file has been moved accordingly to CM for necessary action. We will have to at some point seal the borders,” Rane stated.
He further opined that tourists should be banned from coming into Goa at least for a month or two. “This can be another disaster point for the State. Essential supplies can continue from two points of entry,” Rane said.
He said that the State has to keep track of only people coming from other places to Goa.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, meanwhile said that there is no threat of Coronavirus from inside the State as till date there was no positive case found.
The Chief Minister made this statement while speaking on the sidelines of the function to pay homage to former Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar.
Sawant further said that making Goa garbage free and making the State number one state in the country was the dream of Manohar Parrikar which we have to achieve.
“Our future target is rural development in all sectors keeping the common man in mind. Making Goa clean and garbage free is also our aim”, he said.Karnataka sets up check posts to test people from Goa, Maharashtra
