Parents and students of Std IX and XI demanding uniform assessment policy. Santosh Mirajkar
MARGAO: Parents and detained students of Std IX and XI for the academic year 20-21 demanded that the Goa Board adopt a uniform process of assessment for the past three years to evaluate all students considering the Covid pandemic.
They demanded that the Goa Board should apply the same yardstick of assessment to all students, ie assessment of the last three years while declaring the results. They pointed out that Goa Board decided to evaluate all the students with the three year assessment process except the students of IXth and XIth, for whom their assessment was done based on current year, resulting in a large number of students being detained.
Addressing the media, Adv Suhas Walawaikar, Yashpal Raikar and Franky D’Mello pointed out that the parents and the students feel that a discriminatory process has been adopted by the Board resulting in the detention of the students. “Parents are of the opinion that if the students have not fared well in exams due to no proper physical or online classes being conducted, they should have been promoted using a process of assessment of the last three years. They feel that the students were found weak in studies, proper coaching/remedial classes should have been made available by the Board and the schools” they said.
Franky, who is the NCP Nuvem block president, said the NCP is against the process of detaining students due to their inability to understand teaching. Adv Walawaikar said there are separated guidelines for people with learning disability, with criteria suggesting measures such as Counselling, pediatric psychologist, remedial teaching, simple syllabus”, he added.
