Rubbishing the charges made by the opposition Congress, the Chairperson of Mapusa Municipal Council Ryan Braganza said the development work of the new bus-stand will take place, come what may, as decided by the council.
“The bus-stand project is very important to people of Mapusa. It has to come up. And we will see that the bus-stand work gets started,” said Braganza.
He was reacting to the recent observations made by the Congress and senior councilor Sudhir Kandolkar that the administrative block was crucial and bus-stand work should be taken as a whole and not in a peace-meal manner.
The Mapusa Municipal Council had recently resolved to divert an amount of Rs 3 crore from the 14th Finance Commission for the development of the new bus-stand.
The chairperson also opposed the development of the new bus-stand on Public-Private Partnership model as that would bring a parallel market which will serve as a death knell for the municipal market.
“In PPP model a mall is envisaged with 200 shops at the old bus-stand. The new mall will lead to a parallel market which will finish our municipal market,” he opined.
