Assuring that no project would be allowed to lapse on account of the Covid pandemic, Dy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes launched five different developmental works worth Rs 3.26 crore in Canacona.
At Agonda, works launched included road widening (shoulder extension), protection wall and erection of crash barriers along Panna to Desaiwada road towards Agonda beach at a combined cost of Rs 1.18 crore and a road project worth Rs 40 Lakh from Desaiwada to Parvem (via Chaktem).
The works were launched in the presence of Agonda Sarpanch Badal Naikgaunkar, panch members Tipu Pagui, Pramod Phaldesai and Barsat Naikgaunkar, besides several other villagers.
“The Desaiwada-Parvem road had been riddled with several issues, including pending of payment towards acquisition and objections from landlords for years. These issues were finally resolved and the procedures were completed. The financial approval was obtained and works were launched today,” said Fernandes.
Similarly, construction of a roadside protection wall at Godkumolem-Poinguinim worth Rs 10 lakh was taken up in the presence of Poinguinim Sarpanch Jagdish Gaonkar, ward panch Bipin Prabhudessai and others.
A foundation stone was also laid to develop a tank at a cost of about Rs 48 lakh at Madditolop-Loliem in the presence of Sarpanch Sachin Naik, landlord Mahesh, Panch members Shailesh Pagui, Bhushan Prabhugaongkar, Ajay Lolienkar, Nishant Prabhudessai and Nayan, ex-dy sarpanch Ashutosh Bandekar and WRD officials.
Loliem-Polem Sarpanch Sachin Naik lauded Fernandes for bringing in additional works under GIA funds worth Rs 1.10 crore to the village.
At Agonda and Sadolxem PWD (Roads) AE Swapnil and JE Sawant besides the contractor Dhillon Dessai were present.
Canacona MLA hits out at opposition to 3 transformers at Agonda
CANACONA: Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes has criticised some locals of Agonda for blocking the process to install three electricity transformers in the village.
“After much effort, we got six new transformers sanctioned, considering the low voltage issues especially in the coastal belt of Agonda village.” “Three of the six transformers have been installed in interior parts of the village. However, the other three transformers, which were planned along the coastal areas, are pending for installation. This is because, the very same people who face power disruption and low voltage problems have objected to the installation of the transformers.”
The Canacona MLA said it was disheartening to note that the very people who would have benefited from better power supply did not want to part with an inch of their land to install the transformers.
