A 49-year-old two-wheeler rider from Mahakhajan, Dhargal, was killed after his motorcycle collided with a rent-a-car late on Thursday night at Goa Velha along the Panaji–Margao highway.

The victim died on the spot due to the impact of the collision. Goa Police have registered a case, and Agassaim Police Station is investigating the exact cause of the accident.

The fatal crash comes amid growing concerns over accidents involving rent-a-car vehicles in Goa. The State Government has indicated that it is considering halting the issuance of new licences for rent-a-car operators following a series of recent road accidents involving rental vehicles.

Three weeks ago, a two-wheeler rider was injured after a tourist-driven Mahindra Thar allegedly rammed into a scooter at Happy Bar Junction in Assagao.

In another incident on May 29, a privately operated rent-a-Thar, allegedly being driven on the wrong side of the road in Siolim, collided with a two-wheeler, killing the rider on the spot and injuring a 14-year-old pillion passenger. The Thar driver was also alleged to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

The latest accident has once again renewed concerns over road safety and the operation of rental vehicles in the State.
