According to locals, sections of the bridge's safety railing have collapsed into the water, leaving the structure unsafe for pedestrians and heavy vehicles that use the route regularly. They also pointed to the poor condition of the road leading to the crematorium, saying it has become difficult to use, especially during the monsoon.
Residents have also raised concerns over the persistent dumping of garbage beneath the bridge. They alleged that people continue to dump waste at night, turning the area into an illegal garbage disposal site.
Speaking on the issue, local resident Arvind Payaji said the bridge requires urgent attention. "The condition has become terrible. During the rains, water gushes through here, and children often come to watch," he said.
Payaji also criticised the continued dumping of garbage beneath the bridge despite the Korgao Panchayat displaying a notice warning of a Rs 5,000 fine.
"This is not a place to dump garbage. The Panchayat has even put up a signboard, but people still ignore it. Anyone caught throwing garbage here should be fined. It is not a garbage dumping ground," he said.
He further highlighted the impact of waterlogging on daily commuters, saying vehicles passing through the stretch splash dirty water on pedestrians and schoolchildren.
"The road has been badly damaged. People and children travelling from the crematorium side have to walk through this stretch, and passing vehicles splash dirty accumulated water on them. The government must take immediate steps to repair the bridge and road and resolve this problem for the people," Payaji added.
