Industrialist and noted writer Datta Damodar Naik on Saturday lauded Goan Varta editor Sanjay Dhavalikar for introducing a novel way to present short stories in Marathi literature, through his fictional stories on political events in Goa.

“The stories in his books have revealed different behavioural attitudes of humans,” said Naik, after releasing two Marathi books ‘Haati Rahile Dhupatane’ and ‘Raajkaran Gele Chulit’ by Dhavalikar, which present fictional narratives based on Goa’s politics.

Others present at the function included guest of honour, actor and psychiatrist Dr Meenakshi Martins, industrialist and chairman of Fomento Group Auduth Timblo, Fomento Group directors Govind Bene, Joe Louis and Prashant Sardesai, industrialists Santosh Mahanandu Naik and Anil Khaunte, former union minister Ramakant Khalap, former Panaji MLA Sidharth Kuncolienkar, Utpal Parrikar, AAP leader Valmiki Naik, Lokmat Editor Raju Naik and businessman Sohan Karkal.

The chief guest said the short stories are readable, fascinating and enjoyable.

“These stories are satirical works similar to cartoons.  Dhavalikar has depicted defections in Goan politics as glaring examples of greed for power,” said Datta Naik.

Dr Martins stated that the stories reflected his belief in ethics and constructive

journalism.

“The present is as important as the past. The present political events will certainly benefit future generations and these type of writings should be encouraged,” said Dr Martins.

Speaking on the occasion, Dhavalikar said he had decided to write these stories in December 2017.

“The stories in both books are imaginary stories based on factual events that took place in Goa since 1978,” said Dhavalikar. Subhash Jann compered the programme.
