An Election Observer (EO), who was posted in Goa, met with an accident early Friday morning and was admitted into Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, where she is reportedly in a serious condition.
The EO, Shela Marak (IAS), who was residing at Panjim Residency had gone for a morning walk when she was reportedly knocked down by a car.
She was admitted to GMC by the 108 ambulance service in an unconscious condition.
But her absence in the hotel room created a huge scare among the officialdom, as the EO had not informed her PSO or the liason officer while going out for her morning walk.
The CCTV footage of the hotel showed that she had moved out of her room early morning but there was no indication of her return.
Finally, her whereabouts were tracked after a good 10 hours when someone suggested taking a look at GMC where she was found admitted in serious condition at around 4 pm on Friday.
In the meanwhile, the North Goa Magistrate, R Maneka (IAS) has posted mamlatdars/joint mamlatdars at the GMC to maintain round the clock law and order around the hospital, where the EO is being treated.
“In view of the tragic accident of Shela Marak, IAS, an election observer who has been hospitalized since Friday morning in GMC, Bambolim for treatment the following mamlatdars and executive magistrates are drafted to maintain law and order in and around GMC, Bambolim,” Maneka said in her order.
“The executive magistrates shall take feedback of health status of the EO and update the same to me every hour,” the order further read.
Different mamlatdars/executive magistrates have been put on three shifts of
eight hours each from 6 am to 2 pm, 2 pm to 10 pm and 10 pm to 6 am.
The executive magistrates will be on duty from May 25 to May 31.
