Will decide on withdrawing support at right time: Sudin

PONDA: Stating he has the power to withdraw support to the State government, MGP’s lone legislator Sudin Dhavalikar said he would take a decision at the right time if government fails to resolve issues of Goa, which included the revamping of the Sanjeevani Sakhar Karkhana.

“Issues like revamping the Sanjeevani Sakhar Karkhana should be taken on priority. If the State government fails to revamp the sugar factory by installing new machinery, I will launch a big agitation to save the sugarcane area and its stakeholders,” warned Dhavalikar, while speaking to reporters on Saturday.

Dhavalikar, who was removed from the cabinet by the BJP, said he would monitor the State government’s actions in resolving issues and helping people.

“The MGP has given me powers in regards to the withdrawal of support (to the government). But I don’t want to unnecessarily create a problem. I will take the decision at the right time,” he said.

Dhavalikar recalled how his party had helped the BJP form the government despite having only 13 seats. “The BJP could take this figure to 17 only because we had helped them,” said Dhavalikar.

Dhavalikar said he would raise issues in assembly and highlight the problems before the government.

“I will see how the State government handles these issues. But I will not misuse my powers,” he said.

Dhavalikar congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his landslide victory and appealed to him to resolve the issue of potable water in the country.

“Modi got a huge victory because he delivered on infrastructure. Now for the next five years, he should stress on sorting out the issue of potable water and providing water to farmers. This can happen if they support states and union territories. In Goa, I will support this government, the PWD and WRD towards this cause,” said Dhavalikar.
