MGP leader and PWD Minister, Sudin Dhavalikar, who’s name has cropped up in discussions to evolve an alternative arrangement, has ruled out any change of guard saying “there is no need for change”.
“Even if we think of changing chief minister’s post, how will we prove majority. The moment new chief Minister is nominated, we have to prove majority on the floor of House. How will we accomplish that,” Dhavalikar
questioned.
He pointed out that Pandurang Madkaikar and Francis D’Souza, his Cabinet colleagues, are also out of action due to their medical condition.
Speaking to The Goan, Dhavalikar said Manohar Parrikar is doing good work and hence there is no requirement to change leadership.
“I have clearly said it on Friday itself that Manohar Parrikar is doing good work. Today also I reiterate the same.” Dhavalikar said.
When questioned whether he is interested to become Chief Minister if the situation arises, Dhavalikar said that at present there is no need.
“Such a situation has not arisen and hence there is no need for any change,” he said.
Dhavlikar said he did read reports in the media suggesting that his name had cropped up as an alternative CM but the decision was obstructed by some other leader from the coalition.
“Nothing of such kind has happened,” Dhavlikar said.
MGP is an alliance partner in the Manohar Parrikar government although it had fought the last Assembly elections by severing ties with the BJP.
But with the party winning three seats the MGP helped BJP form the government with Dhavalikar and Manohar Ajgaonkar being inducted in the cabinet. The third MGP legislator, Dipak Pawaskar, was accommodated with the coveted post of Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC).
