PANAJI
On the very day he took charge of his new posting as Organising Secretary of the State unit, Satish Dhond on Saturday visited the BJP headquarters in Panaji and got down to business: fixing the nuts and bolts of the party’s organizational apparatus.
At a meeting with leaders, office bearers and State Executive members, Dhond emphasized the need to galvanize the booth level machinery for the 2019 electoral battle and sought reports of the work of the supervisory panels which were formed for sets of four booths in each constituency.
Dhond, who returns to the organizational hot-seat in Goa after three-and-half years, exclusively focussed on upcoming party programmes and organizational tasks after the brief introductory speech by RS MP and State unit president, Vinay Tendulkar. The issues confronting the party and the State government it leads in coalition with the MGP, Goa Forward Party and Independent MLAs due to the absence in action of the ailing Parrikar were consciously skipped at the deliberations, sources said.
Barring ministers and MLAs, several prominent office-bearers and leaders of the party attended the meeting, including former chief minister, Laxmikant Parsekar, former speaker Rajendra Arlekar, vice-president Dutta Kholkar, General Secretary Sadanand Tanvade, ex-MLA Damu Naik and the two recent entrants and ex-MLAs Shubash Shirodkar and Dayanand Sopte. Former minister Dayanand Mandrekar was a notable absentee.
Dhond refused to speak to the media but former chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar told journalists that all discussions during the nearly two-hour meeting revolved around organizational matters.
The ex-CM who has been vocal about all not being well in the party recently, said the BJP needs organisational changes more than drafting Dhond to handle party affairs.
